John Somerville retired from the US Marine Corps as a Colonel. For six years he was a Regional Coordinator for Christians United for Israel (CUFI). His responsibilities included 20 Midwest states. During those years CUFI grew into the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States. Currently John is the Director of Zion’s Watchmen, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 ministry incorporated in Texas. John’s mission continues to be the building of understanding and support for Israel and then utilize those numbers of supporters to impact American foreign policy by communicating a pro-Israel perspective to our elected officials. Over the years he has led more than 35 tour groups to Israel, coached baseball to Israeli youth (he was a MLB Scout for the Houston Astros) and volunteered on numerous archaeological digs. John’s interest in the Middle East has taken him into the region more than 70 times over the past 40 years. During his military active duty he served in Viet Nam, Somalia, South Korea, Kenya, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria and Israel (but the most dangerous place of all was Washington, D.C.) He is a graduate of both the Naval and Army War Colleges and earned a Ph.D. from Ohio State University. John and Mary make their home on a ranch in North Fork, CA. They have six children and currently 15 grandchildren. John and Mary have hosted a weekly radio program, “Israel in the Bull’s Eye,” an analysis of current events and their impact on Israel.
